Sealing Material
Seals are made of different quality materials that are vigilantly selected or developed for specific applications.

Polyurethane (PUR)
Polyurethane has excellent mechanical properties such as high tensile strength, abrasive resistance, tear strength, and extrusion strength. The good temperature range lies between - 40 degree Celsius and +110 degree Celsius. It is resistant to mineral oil and grease. But it is not resistant to water at temperature above + 50 degree, alkalis acid.

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR)
NBR is usually used in hydraulic and pneumatic system for its good resistance ability to mineral oil, animal oil, grease/fat, fire resistance fluid and grease. The operating temperature generally lies between - 30 degree Celsius and 100 degree Celsius and 120 degree maximum. NBR is not resistant to aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbon, Ketones, fire resistant hydraulic fluid HFD

Fluorine Rubber (FPM)
Flouring rubber is highly resistant to temperature, atmosphere and chemicals. It can weigh temperature upto 200 degree Celsius and momentary upto 220 degree Celsius and synthetic based hydraulic fluid. Due to low temperature flexibility and resistance to hot water and stream, special material must be used for such application.

Polyoxymethylene (POM)
The thermoplastic material (POM) is used as base material for most of the bearing elements. Chemically combined with PTFE compound, the material is tough and maintains good stability of shape at different temperature.

Fluoro Silicon Rubber (FVMQ)
FVMQ is suitable for very high temperature. FVMQ in comparison to VMQ offer more resistance to mineral oil.

Fabric Materials for Seals
The type of fabric material depends on the type of application, temperature range, thickness and the finish required for the seal. The two types of fabric are: -

  • Cotton fabric

  • High temperature resistance synthetic fabric

Storage of Elastomer
A lot about elastomer depends on the storage system. Oxygen ozone, heat, moisture, solvents, etc reduced the longevity of the product. The properties of elastomer remain unchanged if kept in proper storage system.

The storage room should be cool, dry, dust free and well unventilated. The temperature must range between +20 degree Celsius and -10 degree Celsius. A point must be noted is both high and low temperature can cause damage to the seal. When heating the storage room, the radiators and piping system should be covered with proper insulation. A minimum distance of 1 meter should be maintained between the heat sources and stored material. The most favourable relative humidity in approximately 65%.
